Membership Form
Consider membership in …
The Institute for Biblical Research, Inc.
...an organization of evangelical Christian scholars with specialties in the Old and New
Testaments. The Institute for Biblical Research fosters the study of the Scriptures within
an evangelical context, encourages university and college students toward a vocation
of biblical scholarship, and wishes to establish facilities for the furtherance of biblical
studies.
The Institute for Biblical Research offers a number of services to its members which
include:
- The Bulletin for Biblical Research. which is a semi-annual publication reflecting t
he scholarship and objectives of IBR. The Institute strongly encourages its
members to submit articles for publication.
- An Annual Newsletter, reporting on the news and activities of IBR members.
- The Bibliographic Series, produced by IBR members which is a widely used
resource that guides scholars towards the most important publications for
biblical scholarship.
- The IBR Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the Society of Biblical Literature
Annual Meeting. This meeting offers the best of evangelical scholarship through
the presentation of papers and formal responses as well as informal question-
and-answer periods.
- Specific Study Groups which undertake focused projects centered around critical
issues in biblical scholarship.
There are three categories of membership that we warmly encourage qualified scholars
to apply for through our nomination process. Please fill out the nomination form below
and have the appropriate people sign for you.
- FELLOWS are scholars with a Ph.D. or Th.D. in an Old or New Testament specialty,
or in an ancillary non-theological discipline, e.g. Near Eastern Studies,
Intertesta-
mental Studies. They are nominated by two IBR Fellows to the Executive
Committee,
which on approval nominates them to the General Meeting for election.
- ASSOCIATES are Ph.D. or Th.D. candidates in an Old or New Testament specialty.
They are nominated by a Fellow to the Executive Committee, which, on approval,
nominates them to the General Meeting for election. On completion of their Ph.D.
they may, on nomination by the Executive Committee, be elected Fellow by the
General Meeting.
- FRIENDS are those other than biblical scholars, e.g. philanthropists, publishers,
those in wider theological disciplines, concerned to promote the purposes of IBR.
They are nominated by a Fellow to the Executive Committee, which, on approval,
nominates them to the General Meeting for election.
Our confessional basis to which the Fellows, Associates, and Friends agree is…
- The unique divine inspiration, integrity, and authority of the Bible.
- The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- The necessity and efficacy of the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ for the
redemption of the world.
- The historical fact of his bodily resurrection.
- The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration and for the
understanding of the Scriptures.
- The expectation of the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
