Assistant Professor of Theology and Dean of Chapel

The School of Christian Studies at Louisiana Christian University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position starting August 1, 2026. We welcome candidates with expertise in Christian theology who will teach a combination of general education courses on Christian Worldview and Bible survey, in addition to upper-level theology courses in the School of Christian Studies. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching apologetics, philosophy, and research methods. The annual teaching load is 24 hours. Candidates must be able to teach in person and online. *This position also includes the role of Dean of Chapel which comes with annual stipend. See below for more information.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

LCU’s primary mission is teaching from a faith-informed perspective. The School seeks faculty who are active Christians whose biblical worldview guides their teaching and scholarship. Moreover, we seek candidates who are committed to balancing theological instruction with application to the life of the church. Faculty members in the School of Christian Studies should approach their teaching position as a ministry to students, building community by being available to mentor and instruct outside the class.

 

Responsibilities of the professor position include teaching, academic advising, participation in annual assessment, student recruitment, attendance at faculty meetings and weekly chapel services, and university committee service. Scholarship is encouraged with funding available through an endowment. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an effective working relationship with the administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community to promote the vision of the School.

 

Responsibilities of the Dean of Chapel include various administrative tasks such as:  scheduling and contacting speakers, arranging travel accommodations, and creating and stewarding the chapel budget. The role involves a close working relationship with the President, Media Director, and Music faculty to ensure a meaningful spiritual experience for the campus community. The Dean of Chapel must be able to preach in chapel on occasion as well.

 

Requirements

 

·      Ph.D. (or equivalent) is preferred, in the discipline of theology, philosophy, or a closely related field; ABD will be considered

·      Teaching experience is preferred

·      Ability to integrate vibrant Christian faith into traditional teaching and coursework

·      Active and faithful membership in an SBC church

·      Paid or volunteer service in the local church preferred

·      Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

·      Excellent interpersonal skills

·      Agreement with the BF&M2000 and commitment not to teach in a way contrary to it

·      Agreement with the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy

·      Must be a visible Christian leader and give witness as a person who lives a life that honors the Lord Jesus Christ and is consonant with the Statement of Christian Standards of Louisiana Christian University, including agreement with the University’s statement on Biblical Design for Human Sexuality
