Scripture, Hermeneutics, and the Middle East

Reading the Israelite Conquest after Gaza

This session will bring into conversation ancient Israel’s conquest of the Canaanites and modern Israel’s conflict with the Palestinians, with particular attention to events on and after October 7, 2023. Are Israel’s Scriptures relevant for today’s battle for territory in the Holy Land? Should the modern Israeli-Palestinian crisis inform our reading of the biblical Land promises and conquest narrative? After invited scholars from various perspectives weigh in, we will welcome audience participation.
