Professor of Old Testament OR Professor of New Testament (open rank for both positions)

Position Summary: The professor of Old Testament or New Testament is a full-time, tenure-track member of the faculty. In keeping with the mission of Western Theological Seminary to “form women and men for faithful Christian ministry and participation in the Triune God’s ongoing redemptive work in the world,” the professor will engage in excellent scholarship, skilled teaching, the formation of students, and the life of the church. This faculty member will join all WTS core faculty in a commitment to the historic Christian faith and Reformed theological tradition as described in the seminary’s theological identity statement and will fully support the seminary’s Faculty Statement on Forming Women for Ministry. All faculty positions report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) with duties assigned by the VPAA.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Teach 15 credits per academic year (five 3-credit courses or their equivalent).
• Be actively engaged in scholarly research and writing, with outlets such as academic books, professional journals and conferences, non-scholarly Christian publications, blogs, podcasts, etc.
• Participate in appropriate professional organizations in the biblical field.
• Represent the seminary to outside constituencies through professional and ecclesiastical conferences, speaking engagements, and recruiting and development.
• Serve on faculty committees as assigned by the VPAA.
• Perform other faculty duties as assigned by the VPAA.

Qualifications:

• Committed to the historic Christian faith, the Reformed theological tradition, and the mission and identity of Western Theological Seminary.
• Completed doctorate in the field of Old Testament or New Testament studies by the time of appointment.
• Successful experience teaching introductory and/or advanced courses in either the New Testament or Old Testament; teaching at the seminary level preferred. If expertise is in Old Testament, the ability to teach Hebrew is preferred. If expertise is in New Testament studies, the ability to teach Greek is preferred.
• Ability to teach with an eye towards the church and ministry. Pastoral experience is an asset.
• Ability to teach in Spanish is preferred.
• Demonstrated professional publication record.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong commitment to and active participation in the local and global church.
• Unwavering support of the education and ordination of women for all forms of ministry.

The appointment will begin on July 1, 2026.

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. Professorial rank will be assigned at a level commensurate with professional experience.
